Artist's Statement

My practice of photography takes place in an interplay between mimesis and transformation, between the camera as a mirror held up to nature and the camera as a tool that shapes how we perceive the world.

I value Gary Winogrand's remark that he photographed to see what something looked like when it was photographed.

Someone told me he once met a woman, a stranger to him, who was attractive and engaging. Only when he saw a photograph of them standing together in the next day's newspaper did he realize he was talking with Cindy Crawford.
